LINTON SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM 1963
This is 1963 I recall, that's me on the top row, right end. Others are, I think, from top left;
Unknown, unknown, David Fletcher, Colin Staples, Keith Mead, Peter Hartingdon (Me), David Haw (?), Alan Waller, Alan Waddington, Ronald Turpin, Alan McGraw(?).
I was a rubbish centre forward. The sports teacher, in my time, was first, a Mr. (Ian) Core, I think it is fair to say that Mr. Core was not liked at all, and then, later, a great guy from Wales, one Mr. Williams took over from Mr Core's place, who I think moved on.
Real nice man, Mr Williams was, and a great teacher. Occasionally Mr. Laughlin would take the class. He now lives in the Lake District, or Darlingon, depending on who one talks to. I remember the time when Mr. Laughlin was taking 'showers' one night when his wife, who was also a teacher at the school, walked into the ablutions, just as we were all parading out to get our towels, and even at 13 or 14 years old, there was some big lads, in the duff mind, and one lad said to her 'do you mind, we are all naked here', she replied ''don’t be silly, I am a married woman, “Well not to me you ruddy well aint”.
She was never seen in the boy’s showers again while I was there!
Allan Waller became a very good friend of mine, and later when I was about 17, after having left Linton and worked at various jobs, farming, milk rounds and others, I went to live at his house, as a lodger mind, nothing else. We did work for a time at the same place along with Colin Staples. This was Brigella Mills in Little Horton, Bradford, at the time a busy woollen warehouse, we sorted pieces ready for customers. Alans dad had a Ford Zephyr, that was a real car, front bench seat, column gear change, real class, I was allowed to drive on a few occasions, fantastic!
