Linton Trout Tickling

Camping and Trout Tickling

Here we see the hikers taking a breather on top of one of the hills we climbed. This trackway lies between Upper Wharfedale and Wensleydale, and Carlton High Dale.
It was on this trip that I 'tickled a trout'!
Laying down at the waters edge, and very slowly sliding my hand under the fish, touching it gently on its belly, stroking its underside, and with a flick of the wrist, whoosh; it was out of the water. The idea was to cook it for supper, but I hadn’t the heart to do it. Some survivor! The seated lad, looking directly to the camera, is Jack Smith. We were to meet later in life, Jack Burnett, who he had now become, was to marry my wife’s sister’s husband’s sister, if that makes sense. The lad yawning, looking totaly disinterested is Ronald Turpin. The teach, Mr Williams looks on with distrust and suspision. Mr Williams was very well liked by all the boys.
