Linton Camp Trip Call Of Nature

Linton School Camping Trip and Nurse Wilson

This is a shot of me while on the Aysgarth Camping Trip, taken at a point in Wensleydale, near Semerwater.
I must have had a camera in order to take these pictures, although I have no recall of what it was, or how I obtained it. Even any cheap camera at this time would have been an over extravagant luxury for me. When I was at Linton, I was actually in the care of the Local Authority.
I was allowed 'spending money' each week, courtesy of the 'LA'. This started at 2 shillings. (Two bob, or in new money, 10p) This must have increased during my time at Linton as I do remember the LA insisted that a contribution should be made to obligatory savings, can’t remember how much, a half comes to mind, I recall that while at Linton it was not never deducted, as one staff member said, "we are in charge here, not the LA", but one thing is certain, I did not leave Linton rich!
Later out of my ''allowance from the LA'' I had ordered a daily delivery of the Telegraph & Argus, the local Bradford Paper, in order to keep up to date in what was then, my beloved home town. The paper would have cost around 4d at the time, (about 2p now) and was delivered each day to Nurse Wilson.
We had a fully functional clinic block at Linton School, manned by one Nurse Wilson.
She would read my paper before I got chance.
She never offered to contribute to its cost.
She was not my favourite person. Nobody ever wanted to report any illness, or scratch, cut or tummy bug, everyone was too scared to. She must have led a boring existence, or a cushy number, depending on your viewpoint.
People have told me since that she was a really nice lady. One of the main ''cures'' that Nurse Wilson would be involved in was Verruca''s, this involved painting on ones foot a purple coloured dye, this would mean that the recipient would be dissmissed from showers each night.
I longed to catch verruca''s!
