Russell Robinson

Russell Robinson is the nephew of Donald Robinson. Russell was never a pupil at Linton but did visit regularly when he was young to visit his uncle Don. Russell fell in love with the Dales and as he grew up he was, and still is, involved with the Duke Of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, and the Outward Bound, (self-reliance through adventure). One day recently while Russell was having a clean out he came across an old battered scrap book. The book and its treasured images it contained, were from the 1950's period. Although mainly relating to the two outdoor pusuit schemes mentioned, they do contain some photographs of Linton School. The school site was often used as a base for attendees while following their chosen activities on the courses. This was mainly during the schools holiday period when most, but not all, pupils returned home. The acommodation was ideal for these sort of activities, being situated almost in the centre of Wharfedale. Russells uncle, Donald Robinson taught woodwork and other craft activities, in addition to outdoor pursuits such as potholing, and canoeing on the river Wharfe. Don first strated at Linton in 1948 leaving in around 1962 to take up a role at Leeds University. Don continued with his outdoor pursuits and his love of the countryside and the Yorkshire Dales in particular, and has had various major positions with an assortment of organisations, having travelled the world leading student groups to places from Puru to the Alps. He is MD of his own specialist manufacturing business, and at the age of 83 shows no sign of slowing down!

If it were not for the efforts and forsight of people just like Russell then none of us would have the enjoyment of viewing these superb images. If you have any prints stashed away going dusty, then please contact me so that they can be shared with others, and remember, you will not be able to take them with you, and the chances are that, when the owner of any archives such as these takes leave of this life, as they surely will, then the photos will most probably finish up in a SKIP.
Please do not allow this to happen to your photographs!
